Taxpayer Information - District of Columbia

Welcome to the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide site for Washington, D.C.

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide service is the fourth-largest tax preparation service of any kind, paid or free, in the United States. Last year, our IRS-certified counselors in D.C. assisted over 3,100 D.C. and Maryland taxpayers, generating more than $2.6 million in federal tax refunds alone.

Our services are free, confidential, and offered at locations throughout the city (see the buttons to the right for a list of sites, dates and hours of operation). Working with you, we’ll prepare your returns, review them with you, electronically and securely file them, and provide you with a printed copy for your files.

Use the List of Preparation Sites to select the Tax-Aide site that best meets your schedule, and register for an appointment.

Then click the Return to Intro Page button to return to this page and complete the appropriate form(s).
- All taxpayers will need to complete an Intake and Interview Form.
- If you have significant deductions to claim (more than $15,750 [single] / $31,500 [joint]), you should complete the
Itemized Deductions Worksheet (Schedule A).
- If you operate an unincorporated business, you should complete the Self-Employment Worksheet (Schedule C).

You can complete forms by hand or using a computer:
- To complete form by hand, click the appropriate button to the right to display it, and then print it.
- To complete the form using a computer, click the appropriate button to the right to display it, then download it. The downloaded form will be a 'fillable' version.

Use the Documents to Bring Checklist for a list of documents to bring to your appointment.

You can also get paper copies of the blank forms to fill out at most of our locations beginning in mid‑January.
